A LETTER FROM CHRISTINE
My name is Christine, and I have dedicated over 30 years to working with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Throughout my career, I have bred these remarkable dogs and started several Cavalier-inspired projects. I've formally and common law trademarked multiple exclusive Cavalier brands, started an online store, created the Cavs, Coffee and Cocktails TM podcast on Spotify, and authored several Cavalier oriented books for children and breed enthusiasts, which are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. My passion for Cavaliers is matched only by my commitment to my clients, who have always been the focus of our website, social media, and business.
Having spent most of my adult life in this field, I've gained extensive knowledge, particularly about the heart issues that affect many Cavaliers as they age. It's important for potential buyers to be aware of these concerns. I field a lot of phone calls every day asking if we have advice on Cavalier health and I'm happy to answer questions and concerns. If someone claims their Cavaliers are entirely free of murmurs and MVD, especially in older age, it's best to simply ask for verification from a veterinarian and cardiologist.
We understand that gathering information is an important part of your decision-making process, which is why we offer comprehensive resources on our website and are always available to discuss your questions by phone or email. Although we are occasionally asked for feedback regarding other breeders, we choose not to engage in such discussions. Comments, criticisms, or insinuations about other breeders are not only unprofessional; they often stem from projection to distract from a lack of substantive contributions. Instead of public criticism—particularly when it concerns the health and well-being of our cherished Cavaliers—a true professional should extend assistance privately. At Royal Flush Cavaliers, we believe that healthy competition should drive innovation and foster collaboration, not be used as a pretext for harmful attacks disguised as "helpful advice." These kinds of negative tactics often follow the DARVO pattern, but in our commitment to positivity, we’ve redefined that acronym to stand for:
Dedicated to preserving the breed’s integrity and health.
Advocating for breeding practices and education.
Respectful of the dogs and other breeders.
Valued for our commitment to excellence and care.
Open in communication with clients and the community.
Our approach focuses on highlighting our strengths, respecting competitors, and fostering a community of like-minded individuals, a strategy that has been key to our success for over 30 years. If you're looking for a puppy, a breeder interested in collaboration, or someone just starting out, we welcome all inquiries. We are dedicated to supporting both new and experienced breeders in enhancing their programs and are committed to being accessible to everyone, from Boston to Beverly Hills. We deeply appreciate all those who have joined us on this remarkable journey. It has been an incredible adventure, and as they say, if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. We hope you enjoy our site. If you have any questions about our dogs or the breed, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
OUR WEBSITE WILL BE CELEBRATING ITS 24th ANNIVERSARY 2024!
Back in the 90s, when we first started breeding, the process was quite different. We would place ads in local newspapers and publications, receive a phone call, schedule an appointment, and then wait for people to show up—this was before the days of cell phones and GPS. Purchasing ROYALFLUSHCAVALIERS.COM in 2000 was a major milestone for us, as it was still early in the internet era. To put it in perspective, companies like Walmart, Facebook, and even the White House secured their dot coms just a few years before, and less than half of U.S. households were even online. Despite owning the website, we primarily continued to rely on phone calls and newspaper ads for several years after until the internet became a household staple.
Want a good laugh? Look at the clip from the Today Show, shortly before we purchased our website.
THANK YOU!
Christine has authored several books on the breed and is the author of two Amazon #1 Best Sellers:
The Complete Cavalier Compendium and Knox and Charles Go To England.
It wouldn't have been possible without your support and we extend our sincere heartfelt gratitude.
She is also an expert contributor to The Complete Guide to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by Jordan Honeycutt.

HOW IT WORKS
We notify you of available puppies or add you to the list for future puppies.
We cannot guarantee wait time as it is impossible to predict future litters, how many puppies, who will wait and so on.
When a puppy is available we begin the application process and once complete we take a small deposit.
The application is very straightforward and it gives us a chance to get to know the potential placement home.
Depositors are provided with a login and can view litters from birth through placement with our LIVE cam.
Note that LIVE cam is visual only. There is no audio since this camera is live in our home but you will see us daily on the feed.
We do not allow visitors until pups have their first vaccinations which is generally 6 to 8 weeks of age.
We do not expose newborn puppies to the general public and they must have their first shot before you can visit.
There will be no exceptions made on this policy.
Placement date is always determined by our veterinarian at their final exam.
Puppies see the vet at 7/8 weeks for their final exam and it is at this appointment where he makes the final call.
You will go home with a gift bag and all pertinent information needed for your first vet visit.
Clients will go home with items and paperwork to assist with puppy's transition to their new home and vet.
As a special THANK YOU, every client will also go home with a sample item from our store.

WE ARE THE FIRST AND ORIGINAL BREEDER TO OFFER THE FIVE YEAR HEALTH GUARANTEE
WE WILL REPLACE ANY PUPPY THAT SUCCUMBS TO PREMATURE HEART DISEASE/MVD BY THE AGE OF 5.
We pioneered the concept of The Cavalier Five Year TM health guarantee, a tradition we've upheld for decades. Here's a breakdown of how our guarantee operates: Upon purchasing, you have a 14 day window to consult with your veterinarian. If they record any congenital or hereditary issues, we then require you to schedule a second visit with a vet or specialist of our choosing. Should there be an issue, returning the puppy will entitle you to a full refund. Recognizing that Cavaliers are susceptible to heart conditions, we extend an additional Cavalier Five Year TM health guarantee against early heart defects leading to fatality within five years of birth. To keep this guarantee active, it is mandatory to have your dog examined annually. In the unlikely event that your dog succumbs to early onset MVD within the initial five years, we pledge to provide you with a replacement puppy, free of charge. To avail this, a comprehensive set of medical records must be presented. Please note, any veterinary expenses, apart from our written requests for appointments with our vet or specialist, will not be covered by us.

WE DO NOT REQUIRE YOU TO PURCHASE ANYTHING TO KEEP YOUR GUARANTEE IN EFFECT.
We often receive invitations from companies to join their affiliate programs, which promote products to clients in exchange for financial incentives to breeders. For example, a pet vitamin company contacted us and offered a sizable commission on every bottle sold. Its tempting and lucrative, which is why some breeders force clients to purchase these products to keep their guarantee in effect. We want to make it clear that we do not impose any such requirements. We firmly believe that decisions regarding your dog's health and welfare, whether it’s food, medications, supplements, microchips, or insurance, should be made in consultation with your veterinarian, not dictated by your breeder. If a breeder requires you to purchase something to keep your guarantee in effect, I recommend consulting with your veterinarian for their opinion on the product and requirement beforehand.

READ MORE ABOUT OUR "IN A HOME BREEDING PROGRAM TM"
Occasionally, we highlight families who are part of our In a Home Breeding Program™ on our website and social media. These families play an important role in RFC’s kennel-free, humane approach. Many of our breeding dogs live with these clients, returning to us to be bred and later to whelp their puppies. This system allows for client involvement and ensures our dogs live as pets, and avoiding the need for retirement.
COLLABORATIONS WELCOME
Throughout the year, we feature select local families in our pilot program, who help raise puppies from our lines while working closely with us. This new initiative at Royal Flush Cavaliers offers these families the chance to start their own breeding programs while giving both sides the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve together.
Our regular group includes:
Mark and Beth: Breeders and former owners of a beloved local boarding center.
Kristin: Breeder and full time Hospice RN.
Lynne: New breeder, recently retired from Woman and Infants Hospital.
Whether at my home or theirs, I am personally involved in every step of the process—from breeding and raising puppies to pre-placement protocols and veterinary visits. If a litter is raised by us, you’ll have access to our live cam for updates before you can visit in person. When a litter is raised with a trusted partner, we provide regular video updates and introduce you to the family involved. This approach allows us to meet the demands of our waiting list while maintaining the highest standards of care. It also creates a system of checks and balances to ensure every detail is covered, guaranteeing the best experience for both puppies and buyers.
WE PREFER TO BE A POSITIVE IN OUR COMMUNITY
At Royal Flush Cavaliers, our philosophy is rooted in fostering positive relationships and supporting the success of others. We believe in a collaborative approach where success is built on constructive efforts, not through bullying, criticism or negativity. Our breeding program is grounded in mutual respect, continuous learning, and a commitment to contributing positively to both our industry and community.
We are passionate about building meaningful relationships, creating a safe and welcoming environment where questions are encouraged, and where everyone feels valued as part of the team. Together, we can celebrate the joy of Cavaliers and create something truly special. If this resonates with you, we invite you to reach out and join us. We look forward to collaborating with fellow Cavalier enthusiasts who share our passion and values, or just want to learn more about this amazing breed.

REGISTRATION
Registration is for people purchasing to breed or show. If you are considering a puppy to breed or show, you must mention this in your initial email and not after purchase. Breed and show contracts are different than a pet purchase where you would not receive this. If you are looking to show or breed we will consider a dual ownership only We do a contract with dual so that we maintain control over how the lines are developed for the future.

WE HAVE A PILOT PROGRAM FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN DUAL OWNERSHIP AND SHOWING
Though we are not personally showing our dogs, we have placed some on show contracts that have been active in the show ring. We are currently seeking people that may be interested in participating in our new dual program The Champion Companion Cavalier Program TM is a program designed for people seeking a loving companion who are also interested in showing recreationally too. Whether it be AKC conformation, obedience or agility, we would love to discuss options specific to you and your canine compadre. If this program interests you, call or email us for more information.
WE DO NOT GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE AND BELIEVE THIS IS BEST LEFT TO YOUR VET
While I understand that clients may have questions on medical concerns, I always direct them to consult their veterinarian. As a breeder, my expertise lies in breeding, not in veterinary medicine. I did not go to medical school and I feel it is irresponsible for a breeder to offer advice on medical treatments or vaccinations. Though you gain knowledge and experience over time, I am not a doctor. If my dog is sick, I go to the vet, and you should too. Even with a what may seem like a minor issue, it's always best to consult with a qualified veterinarian. If you do not have a vet prior to your puppy placement, I am happy to refer you to mine.

WE DO NOT MICROCHIP YOUR PUPPY AND BELIEVE THIS IS SOMETHING BEST LEFT TO YOUR VET TOO
Anyone can shop Amazon and purchase a microchip package with lifetime registration for $5, even less when purchasing in bulk. While most microchips are safe, there have been rare instances of recalls due to issues like chip malfunction, and adverse health effects from improper implantation, such as infection, swelling, hair loss, tissue damage or worse. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends having a veterinarian implant or supervise the microchipping procedure. This ensures proper placement and technique, while minimizing risks. Your vet can properly implant the chip, advise on reputable brands, and keep you informed on any potential recalls or issues to watch out for. Microchipping is an affordable procedure, and many pet insurance providers actually include it as part of their puppy wellness plans. Though you may find cheaper options for the microchip itself, your vet provides professional expertise and care when implanting it. For such an important safeguard for your puppy, the minor additional cost of a vet handling the microchipping is well worth it. If you'd like to read more on the American Veterinary Medical Association's position, you can visit their website here: AVMA WEBSITE.

PET INSURANCE
While we strongly recommend that our clients consider pet insurance, we maintain impartiality and refrain from endorsing or recommending any specific pet insurance companies. Choosing the right policy is a personal decision influenced by numerous variables, including different companies, coverage types, deductibles, and more. Pet insurance policies can be standalone or an extension of existing home or auto insurance providers, with coverage options range from routine care to emergency services or a combination of both. There are some companies that offer new puppy specific plans that include shots, microchips and spay/neutering too. Deductibles vary widely, starting from zero, and each policy comes with distinct premium rates to accommodate a range budgets and needs. Consult with your current insurance provider, veterinarian and also review FORBES ADVISOR for monthly updates on the best pet insurance companies in categories based on price, coverage, and customer satisfaction ratings. As a breeder, I understand that these plans are subject to change, which is why I emphasize the importance of self research to find the best plan that aligns with your personal needs and budget.

WE DO NOT IMPOSE AGE RESTRICTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO PURCHASING A PET
We do not condone, support or subscribe to a policy that is fundamentally discriminatory. Puppies and adult dogs are beneficial to people of all ages. They provide comfort and companionship for emotional health, and encourage activity for better physical health. Cavaliers make excellent companions for senior citizens. Children raised with dogs learn responsibility, empathy and compassion, and studies have also shown that babies raised around dogs may also be healthier too. Pet ownership is a huge responsibility which is why we have a process. We want to collectively make the best decision for both you and the pup. I had my first puppy at two years old, so why restrict you?

MORE ABOUT OUR BREEDING PROGRAM
Our journey is one of constant evolution, as we explore fresh and captivating avenues to advance our efforts. This encompasses collaborating with fellow breeders, introducing novel programs to augment our existing one, and broadening our expertise. Over the past few years, we've experienced growth through the introduction of new dogs and families, the inception of LIVE cam, partnerships with kindred breeders, securing multiple trademarks, and the creation of an engaging series of books tailored for both adults and children. We look forward to the future and many more adventures together.
IN ADDITION TO OUR PERSONAL PROGRAM, WE COLLABORATE ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH:
COURTNEY'S CAVALIERS (ct) * HARRISON CAVALIERS (ma) * MEADOW MUFFIN CAVALIERS (ma)
LYNNE'S CAVALIERS (ri) * BURKE CAVALIERS (ny) * BEVERLY HILLS CAVALIERS (ca)
We also offer breeding and stud service through our partnership with THE DOGHOUSE LLC in Florida.
Though we provide stud service to other breeders, we exclusively provide service to the breeders listed above. Owning the sire of these litters, we will often assist with the placement of their puppies too. We believe working in a supportive group fosters growth, development and an opportunity for everyone to benefit and thrive.

THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE DOZEN FAMILIES WITH OVER TWO DOZEN DOGS IN OUR BREEDING PROGRAM
After spending decades in the company of these exquisite beings, we've recognized that our optimal number of dogs is around six. This determination takes into account our age, and the substantial care and attention these dogs naturally crave and require. Despite these considerations, our dedication to our program remains unwavering. The majority of our dogs participate in our In a Home Breeding Program TM, leading their lives with families who are not only our previous clients but part of our extended family. These babies periodically return to us for breeding and then return again to whelp and raise their puppies. Once the puppies are of age, the mother dogs returns home. Further details about this initiative can be found on our "About Us" page where we discuss the program and how it works. It is an ever evolving program that allows for continuation without compromise.

DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN ENGLISH TOY SPANIELS AND CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS
English Toy Spaniels, often referred to as King Charles Spaniels in England, are distinct and separate breeds from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. While there are notable similarities, it's important to discern between them. Let's delve into some historical context to aid in differentiation. Named after King Charles II, these spaniels were cherished by the monarch, boasting elongated noses during his era. After his passing, the popularity of Pugs and similar breeds influenced breeding practices, resulting in the evolution of the English Toy Spaniel as we recognize it today. In the 1920s, Roswell Eldridge sought to revive the original spaniel type, initiating a challenge at the Crufts Dog Show. This endeavor led to the establishment of a breed standard and the birth of the CAVALIER King Charles Spaniel, with the first champion Cavalier, Ann's Son, being born in 1926.

Both breeds share the same four colors and exhibit comparable personalities, yet they are officially registered as separate and distinct breeds. Notably, English Toy Spaniels feature short muzzles and pushed in faces, whereas Cavaliers showcase elongated noses and balanced facial proportions. In terms of size, English Toy Spaniels weigh between 8 to 14 lbs, while Cavaliers fall within the 13 to 18 lbs range, which occasionally leads to attempts to misrepresent them as "toy" Cavaliers. Both breeds face heart valve concerns, but due to their shorter muzzles, English Toy Spaniels encounter breathing issues as well. Additionally, both breeds might be susceptible to neurological problems, with English Toy Spaniels being more predisposed due to the size and shape of their heads. Though exhibiting similarities, English Toy Spaniels and Cavaliers remain distinct breeds that should not be confused with one another.
