WELCOME! OUR WEBSITE WILL BE CELEBRATING ITS 25th ANNIVERSARY IN 2025!
Back in the 90s, when we first started breeding, the process was quite different. We would place ads in local newspapers and publications, receive a phone call, schedule an appointment, and then wait for people to show up—this was before the days of cell phones and GPS. Purchasing ROYALFLUSHCAVALIERS.COM in 2000 was a major milestone for us, as it was still early in the internet era. To put it in perspective, companies like Walmart, Facebook, and even the White House secured their dot coms just a few years before, and less than half of U.S. households were even online. Despite owning the website, we primarily continued to rely on phone calls and newspaper ads for several years after until the internet became a household staple.
Want a good laugh? Look at the clip from the Today Show, shortly before we purchased our website.
THANK YOU!
Christine has authored several books on the breed and is the author of two Amazon #1 Best Sellers:
The Complete Cavalier Compendium and Knox and Charles Go To England.
It wouldn't have been possible without your support and we extend our heartfelt gratitude.
She is also an expert contributor to The Complete Guide to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by Jordan Honeycutt.

A NOTE FOR THOSE CONSIDERING BREEDING
Starting out in breeding can feel isolating — especially when some breeders refuse to collaborate or, worse, mock those who do. Pride in your own program is one thing, but shaming breed-focused partnerships is another entirely. At Royal Flush Cavaliers, we proudly work with a trusted network of co-owners, guardians, and like-minded breeders to ensure every dog receives exceptional care and thoughtful placement. Christine, a snowbird, divides her year between Massachusetts and Florida, and our extended team includes the following animal caretakers and medical professionals:
CHRISTINE
Breeder, podcaster, best selling author, and founder of Royal Flush Cavaliers and the CKCSS TM
MASSACHUSETTS
Kristin - hospice nurse practitioner
Lynne - retired NICU specialist from Women & Infants Hospital
Mark & Beth - a respected local family with nearly 30 years of grooming and boarding experience
FLORIDA
Carrie and Jordan - A highly credentialed husband-and-wife training team, they bring an impressive background that includes supervising USCG explosive detection canines, training ATF working dogs, earning national obedience titles, and producing the acclaimed documentary Dogs to Diapers. Their program features a stunning, health-tested chocolate tri-color male available for stud, along with a beautiful five-generation Royal Flush female — both raised with the same standards of excellence we’re proud to uphold.
At Royal Flush Cavaliers, we proudly partner with select local families through our pilot program, where they raise puppies from our lines under our direct guidance. This initiative gives these families the opportunity to begin their own breeding programs while allowing all of us to grow, learn, and evolve together—a process detailed further on our MENTORSHIP page. Whether a litter is raised in my home or with one of our trusted partners, I remain personally involved every step of the way—from breeding and whelping to pre-placement protocols and veterinary care. Litters raised in-house have access to our live puppy cam, while those at partner homes receive regular video updates on our social media platforms. This collaborative approach not only helps meet the demand of our waiting list but also ensures that every puppy is raised with exceptional care and attention, backed by a built-in system of checks and balances that guarantees the best experience for both our dogs and their future families.

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PROTOCOLS
WHY ARE VISITS ONLY ALLOWED AFTER PUPPIES HAVE THEIR FIRST VACCINATION?
Our breeding program follows the recommendations and protocols set forth by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to ensure the optimal health and development of our puppies. The AVMA emphasizes the importance of early socialization in shaping a puppy’s behavioral and emotional well-being. Based on their guidelines, we introduce our puppies to positive human interactions between 3 to 5 weeks of age, fostering confidence and adaptability from an early stage. At the same time, we prioritize disease prevention by following AVMA guidelines, which recommend limiting interactions with individuals outside the breeding environment until puppies receive their first round of vaccinations around 6 to 8 weeks old. This precaution helps minimize the risk of illness transmission, particularly from highly contagious diseases like parvovirus and distemper.
By balancing early socialization with strict health protocols, we ensure our puppies receive essential developmental experiences while their immune systems are still maturing. This approach helps them grow into well-adjusted, resilient companions, setting them up for a lifetime of good health and positive social interactions.

WHY ARE PUPPY PLACEMENTS ARE VET APPROVED AND NOT BASED ON YOUR PERSONAL FEELINGS?
We've been breeding Cavaliers for over 35 years and consider ourselves to be experts on the breed. Although experts, we are not doctors so we do not take on the role of a doctor as any point of development or placement. Responsible breeders work closely with veterinarians to ensure the best outcomes for their puppies, prioritizing health and balancing buyer expectations. Breeders who make decisions without veterinary input demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of their role. While breeders bring valuable experience, they are not medical professionals and lack the qualifications to make health determinations. Veterinarians, with their specialized training, are uniquely equipped to assess a puppy’s health, administer vaccines and microchips, and address developmental concerns. Relying on veterinary expertise is not a weakness—it’s a mark of professionalism and responsibility. Ethical breeding demands collaboration, humility, and a commitment to the well-being of the animal.

CAN YOU PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON THE HEALTH OF THE DOGS?
OUR DOGS ARE CHECKED ANNUALLY AND DNAd.
HEALTHY ADULTS ARE A MUST, BUT THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE HEALTHY PUPPIES.
THIS IS WHY A BREEDER'S EXPERIENCE AND THEIR HEALTH GUARANTEE ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT.
This is a vast topic, so we created a dedicated CAVALIER HEALTH page to cover everything in detail.

WHAT DOES YOUR FIVE YEAR HEALTH GUARANTEE COVER?
All of our placements are covered with a five year health guarantee. We were the first to introduce The Cavalier Five Year™ health guarantee, a commitment we’ve proudly upheld for decades. After purchasing your puppy, you have a 14-day period to consult your veterinarian. If they identify any congenital or hereditary issues, you may return the puppy for a full refund. Given that Cavaliers are prone to heart conditions, we also offer an additional Cavalier Five-Year™ health guarantee covering early heart defects that may lead to fatality within the first five years. To keep this guarantee active, simply have your dog examined annually. If a concern arises, we’ll request a follow-up with a vet or specialist of our choosing for a second opinion. In the rare event of early onset MVD leading to your dog’s passing within five years, you may submit medical records for verification and receive a replacement puppy at no cost. Please note that veterinary expenses, aside from those specifically requested by us in writing, are not covered and another reason why we encourage our clients to consider pet insurance for routine and emergency visits.
A BONA FIDE HEALTH GUARANTEE SHOULD BE OFFERED WITHOUT STRINGS ATTACHED.
At Royal Flush Cavaliers, our top priority is the health and happiness of both you and your puppy—not profiting from required purchases. Unfortunately, we’ve seen other breeders poach our ideas, content, and even our guarantee, often modifying it to include conditions that pressure clients into purchasing supplements, foods, and other products from which they earn commissions. This practice lacks transparency and forces owners to give their dog specific products under the guise of ensuring their well-being—all while the breeder, who is neither a veterinarian nor a certified nutritionist, financially benefits. To uphold integrity and fairness, we have taken steps to copyright and trademark our material and want to be clear: our five-year health guarantee does not require any purchases to remain valid. We provide detailed information on breeder-offered products and commissions, including our recommended items and how they work, but we strongly believe in informed choice. We encourage you to consult your veterinarian before introducing any new foods or supplements to ensure you’re making the best decisions for your dog--free from pressure, obligation, or unnecessary purchases.

ROYAL FLUSH CAVALIERS ALWAYS OFFERS RECOMMENDATION, AND NOT DICTATION.
As you know, many companies offer breeders attractive commissions to promote their food, supplements, and other products with programs emphasizing an opportunity for ongoing income even after puppies go home. This creates a tempting situation for some breeders to impose mandatory purchase requirements to continue receiving payments at your expense. At Royal Flush Cavaliers, we prioritize our clients' best interests by never imposing such requirements. Our product recommendations—whether through our stores or partnerships—are based solely on quality and value, not financial incentives.

MEMORY LANE: SOME OF OUR PERSONAL PHOTOS FROM THE 90s THROUGH TODAY
The In-a-Home Breeding Progam TM - A KENNEL FREE APPROACH TO BREEDING
We occasionally feature families from our In a Home Breeding Program™ on our website and social media. These families are key to RFC’s kennel-free, humane breeding philosophy. Many of our breeding dogs live with these families, coming back to us only for breeding and whelping, and then returning home. This system offers our clients a unique benefit while ensuring each dog lives and flourishes in a family home, rather than languishing as one of many in a kennel life. We remain committed to this program to show our appreciation for our clients, support our dogs' well-being, and promote transparency in our breeding program and process.
COLLABORATIONS WELCOME FOR PROGRAM FAMILIES AND NEW BREEDERS ALIKE
Throughout the year, we partner with select local families through our pilot program, where they help raise puppies from our lines while working closely under our guidance. This initiative at Royal Flush Cavaliers offers these families a unique opportunity to begin their own breeding programs, while allowing all of us to learn, grow, and evolve together. You can learn more about this on the MENTORSHIP page of our website.
Whether a litter is raised in my home or with one of our trusted partner families, I remain personally involved every step of the way — from breeding and whelping to pre-placement protocols and veterinary care. If the litter is raised in-house, families enjoy access to our live puppy cam for updates prior to visiting. When raised by one of our partner homes, we provide regular video updates and introduce you to the family involved.
This collaborative model allows us to meet the growing demand from our waiting list while upholding the highest standards of care. It also builds in a natural system of checks and balances — ensuring every puppy is raised with excellence, and every new family receives the best possible experience.

LOOKING TO COLLABORATE? WE ENJOY WORKING WITH OTHER BREEDERS.
At Royal Flush Cavaliers, we are committed to fostering positive relationships and supporting the success of others. Collaboration, respect, and constructive efforts form the foundation of our philosophy, as we strive to build a thriving community without resorting to negativity or criticism. Our breeding program is guided by mutual respect, a dedication to continuous learning, and a steadfast commitment to making a meaningful, positive impact on our industry and community.
We are not a breeder that uses our platform to assert dominance or criticize others. We prefer to be a positive in the community and will showcase own achievements and contributions to the breed, and remain available to help or partner with others. Negativity and hostility have no place in this industry, especially when so many Cavalier breeders are willing to combine efforts to support and uplift one another for the betterment of the breed.
We offer stud services and coaching to families throughout New England, Florida and beyond. We welcome anyone interested to reach out and connect with us. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive environment where meaningful connections can thrive, questions are always welcome, and everyone feels valued as part of the team. Together, we celebrate the joy of Cavaliers and strive to create something truly special.
If our values and approach resonate with you, we’d love to hear from you. We’re eager to collaborate with fellow Cavalier enthusiasts who share our passion or anyone interested in learning more about this remarkable breed.

MORE ABOUT OUR BREEDING PROGRAM
Our program is one of constant evolution, as we explore and adapt new avenues to advance our efforts. This encompasses collaborating with fellow breeders, introducing novel programs to augment our existing one, and broadening our expertise. Over the past few years, we've experienced growth through the introduction of new dogs and families, the inception of LIVE cam, partnerships with kindred breeders, securing multiple trademarks, and the creation of our series of books tailored for both adults and children. We look forward to the future and many more adventures together.
IN ADDITION TO OUR PERSONAL PROGRAM, WE COLLABORATE ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH:
COURTNEY'S CAVALIERS (ct) * HARRISON CAVALIERS (ma) * MEADOW MUFFIN CAVALIERS (ma)
LYNNE'S CAVALIERS (ri) * BURKE CAVALIERS (ny) * BEVERLY HILLS CAVALIERS (ca)
We also offer breeding and stud service through our partnership with THE DOGHOUSE LLC in Florida.
Though we provide stud service to new breeders, we exclusively provide service to the breeders listed above. Owning the sire of these litters and having an established client base, we assist them with the placement of their puppies too. We believe working in a supportive group fosters growth, development and an opportunity for everyone to benefit and thrive.

REGISTRATION
Registration is for people purchasing to breed or show. If you are considering a puppy to breed or show, you must mention this in your initial email and not after purchase. Breed and show contracts are different than a pet purchase where you would not receive this. If you are looking to show or breed we will consider a dual ownership only We do a contract with dual so that we maintain control over how the lines are developed for the future.

INTRODUCING OUR CHAMPION COMPANION CAVALIER PROGRAM ™ - A UNIQUE DUAL OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
We’re excited to introduce our Champion Companion Cavalier Program™—a unique opportunity for those interested in both companionship and showing Cavaliers. While we don’t currently show our own dogs, several of our Cavaliers placed on show contracts have found success in the ring. Through this new program, we’re seeking individuals passionate about recreational showing, whether in AKC conformation, obedience, or agility.
As part of the program, you’ll receive a Cavalier puppy free of charge, with the agreement to show them. We maintain dual ownership during the contract period, and upon its completion, full ownership is transferred to you. This approach not only familiarizes our Cavaliers with the show environment but also gives you a chance to enjoy the experience of showing or a chance to develop your own breeding or show program.
WE DO NOT GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE AND BELIEVE THIS IS BEST LEFT TO YOUR VET.
While I understand that clients may have questions on medical concerns, I always direct them to consult their veterinarian. As a breeder, my expertise lies in breeding, not in veterinary medicine. I did not go to medical school and I feel it is irresponsible for a breeder to offer advice on medical treatments or vaccinations. Though you gain knowledge and experience over time, I am not a doctor. If my dog is sick, I go to the vet, and you should too. Even with a what may seem like a minor issue, it's always best to consult with a qualified veterinarian. If you do not have a vet prior to your puppy placement, I am happy to refer you to mine.

WE DO NOT MICROCHIP PUPPIES AND BELIEVE THIS IS ALSO BEST LEFT TO YOUR VET.
Microchipping is a low-cost procedure, often offered for free as part of puppy care packages through many pet insurance wellness plans. While generally safe and effective, rare instances of malfunctions or defects have led to recalls, and improper implantation can cause issues like infection, swelling, hair loss, tissue damage, or chip migration. Additionally, the closure of microchip companies can pose problems if you're not notified, leaving your contact information inaccessible to anyone who finds your pet. These risks emphasize the importance of having a veterinarian handle the implantation, as they can ensure proper placement, minimize complications, and keep you informed about any recalls or changes to your chip's registration. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends having a veterinarian perform or supervise microchipping to ensure proper placement and minimize risks. A veterinarian can safely implant the chip, recommend reputable brands, and keep you updated on any recalls. With AVMA recommendation and free coverage through insurance wellness plans, there is no need for your breeder to be doing DIY microchips.
PET INSURANCE
While we encourage clients to explore pet insurance options, we remain neutral and do not endorse any specific provider. Choosing the right policy is a personal decision shaped by factors like company offerings, coverage types, deductibles, and individual needs. Pet insurance can be a stand-alone policy or an add-on to home or auto insurance, with coverage options ranging from routine care to emergency services.
MANY PET INSURANCE COMPANIES OFFER 30 DAYS OF FREE COVERAGE TO TRY THEIR PLANS.
MOST OFFER NEW PUPPY WELLNESS PLANS THAT COVER ESSENTIALS LIKE VACCINATIONS, MICROCHIPPING AND SPAY/NEUTER.
AKC, ASPCA, Trupanion, and PetPartners, offer 30 days of free coverage to allow pet owners to try their plans. Deductibles and premiums vary, giving you flexibility to find a plan that fits your budget and needs. We believe it’s unprofessional for breeders to push specific insurance, due to the possibility of commission based sales. It''s also important to note that many of these “special deals” are accessible to anyone signing up directly and may not be the best plan for you, your pet and your budget.
As a breeder, I understand that insurance plans, offerings, and incentives for breeders can frequently change, which is why I stress the importance of independent research to find a policy that truly aligns with your unique needs and budget. To make the most informed choice, consult your current insurance provider, speak with your veterinarian, and review FORBES ADVISOR for unbiased monthly updates on top pet insurance companies, evaluated for price, coverage, and satisfaction.

WE DO NOT IMPOSE AGE RESTRICTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO PURCHASING A PET
We do not condone or support policies that are fundamentally discriminatory. Dogs, both puppies and adults, offer tremendous benefits to people of all ages. They provide companionship and emotional support, encourage physical activity, and promote overall well-being. Cavaliers, in particular, make wonderful companions for seniors, and children who grow up with dogs learn responsibility, empathy, and compassion. Studies have even shown that babies raised around dogs may enjoy certain health benefits too. We recognize that pet ownership is a significant responsibility, which is why we have a careful process in place to make the best match for both you and the pup. I had my first puppy at just two years old, so why place restrictions on others?

DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN ENGLISH TOY SPANIELS AND CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS
English Toy Spaniels, often referred to as King Charles Spaniels in England, are distinct and separate breeds from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. While there are notable similarities, it's important to discern between them. Let's delve into some historical context to aid in differentiation. Named after King Charles II, these spaniels were cherished by the monarch, boasting elongated noses during his era. After his passing, the popularity of Pugs and similar breeds influenced breeding practices, resulting in the evolution of the English Toy Spaniel as we recognize it today. In the 1920s, Roswell Eldridge sought to revive the original spaniel type, initiating a challenge at the Crufts Dog Show. This endeavor led to the establishment of a breed standard and the birth of the CAVALIER King Charles Spaniel, with the first champion Cavalier, Ann's Son, being born in 1926.

Both breeds share the same four colors and exhibit comparable personalities, yet they are officially registered as separate and distinct breeds. Notably, English Toy Spaniels feature short muzzles and pushed in faces, whereas Cavaliers showcase elongated noses and balanced facial proportions. In terms of size, English Toy Spaniels weigh between 8 to 14 lbs, while Cavaliers fall within the 13 to 18 lbs range, which occasionally leads to attempts to misrepresent them as "toy" Cavaliers. Both breeds face heart valve concerns, but due to their shorter muzzles, English Toy Spaniels encounter breathing issues as well. Additionally, both breeds might be susceptible to neurological problems, with English Toy Spaniels being more predisposed due to the size and shape of their heads. Though exhibiting similarities, English Toy Spaniels and Cavaliers remain distinct breeds that should not be confused with one another.
